HOEKELEMENT
In 2020 a good friend of mine got very sick, she got uterine cancer. Her life changed completely. From that moment on I followed her closely and 'infiltrated' into her life.
I spent days and nights talking to Robin about how she was doing, what she was afraid of and how she saw the future. Fortunately, Robin is positive and very interested. She wanted to know all about the ins and outs about my life, about parties, news, and things I'd been through with friends. During such conversations I spoke with my friend, a peer. An hour later, as she was puking, I noticed again that Robin is no ordinary young adult. Robin is forced to live a life she didn't choose. In the year that I followed her, I've seen everything pass by; Celebrating a birthday with a living room full of friends, sick hours in bed, good and bad results of medical results, everything very black and white. Things like that make us get to know each other in a whole new way.
Robin allowed me into her shrinking world and agreed to document this period in her life. This project made a big impression on me. When you see someone close to you in such a life-changing situation, you think very intensely about your own life, about the things that make you happy and the things that bother you that are so small in relative terms. Robin taught me what really matters in life, and no one could give me this valuable life lesson better than she.
